Georgian Cemetery - Monument

The Georgian Cemetery Loladze on the Hoge Berg is an impressive and historic site on Texel. Nearly five hundred Georgian soldiers are commemorated here, who fell during the "Georgian Uprising" at the end of the Second World War.
What can you expect at the Georgian Cemetery?
Historical remembrance: The cemetery tells the story of the uprising of April 1945, also known as "Europe’s last battle".- Special location: The graves lie on the Hoge Berg, the oldest and highest part of Texel, between Den Burg and Oudeschild.
- Impressive rows: In twelve long rows rest the Georgians. At the head lies Commander Shalva Loladze, whose grave is marked by a bronze memorial plaque with his portrait.
- Commemorations: Each year, the victims are remembered – a moving moment for both visitors and island residents.
- Monuments and artworks: Over the years, several memorials have been added, including bronze reliefs and a fence by the Georgian artist Nodaz Mgaloblishvili. Since 1977, the cemetery has officially borne the name Loladze.
