Kijkpost Renvogelveld - Observation point

Kijkpost Renvogelveld is a birdwatching point near the lighthouse in the north of Texel. It looks out over two shallow creeks with gentle banks, a favourite spot for birders.
What can you expect at Kijkpost Renvogelveld?
Nature: The Renvogelveld used to be grassland. Two silted ditches were reshaped into creeks. It is named after a cream-coloured courser seen here in October 1986.
- Birds: Look out for little grebe, cuckoo, goshawk, sedge warbler and lesser whitethroat. It is at its best during autumn migration and in spring, and rarities turn up regularly.
- Viewpoint: The 2013 viewpoint was refurbished in 2024 with new posts, planks and seating. The path to the viewing screen on the north side is open again.
Practical information
- Visit: The viewpoint is free and always open. A telescope comes in handy.
- Accessibility: The lookouts are wheelchair accessible, the dune path is not. An unpaved loop of about 2.5 kilometres runs through the area.
- Surroundings: Nearby are the lighthouse and the Vogelinformatiecentrum Texel, and the Eijerlandse Duinen begin here.
Bring binoculars and enjoy the birds at the island's northern tip from Kijkpost Renvogelveld.
