Waterral - Observation point

In the south of Texel, hidden among the dunes of the Horspolders, lies one of the island’s most beautiful natural spots: the viewpoint Waterral, near the Horsmeertjes. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular view over dune valleys, bird-filled ponds and the vast National Park Dunes of Texel.

What to expect at viewpoint Waterral
- A breathtaking view: From the viewpoint, you can look out over the Horsmeertjes, the Mok Bay, and on clear days even see the ferry, the white church of Den Hoorn, and the Hoge Berg in the distance.
- Bird paradise: The Horsmeertjes were created through sand extraction but are now a haven for countless bird species. Spot ducks, spoonbills, terns and, with a bit of luck, birds of prey such as buzzards or harriers.
- Dynamic landscape: In wet periods – such as February – the area can be muddy. Wear sturdy shoes; some sections may be slippery or difficult to walk. But that’s what makes this place so adventurous and pure.
- Bring your binoculars! The viewpoint is designed so you can observe birds up close without disturbing them. So don’t forget your binoculars or zoom lens for the ultimate view and the best nature photos.
- A moment of silence: Here, far from the crowds, you only hear the wind, birds, and the whisper of the dunes – a place to truly unwind and let nature sink in.
