De Witte Punt - Monument

De Witte Punt was a beacon, placed in the previous century as a reference point for determining a ship’s actual speed, the so-called “measured mile”. There were two places in the Netherlands where this was possible: Vlissingen and the Roadstead of Texel.
De Witte Punt was removed during the dike heightening works in the 1970s. In 2008 the beacon was reinstated on the present-day dike.
Furthermore De Witte Punt is near the following sights: De Ruyterstraat (±100 m), Seamen’s Church of Oudeschild (±125 m), Sint-Martinuskerk (±225 m), Fort Lunette (±400 m) & Kaap Skil (±700 m).
