Francisca Romana Church

The Francisca Romana Church on Molenlaan is a small 19th-century village church with a surprisingly distinctive and much older interior.

• Historic village church: The present Neo-Romanesque church was built in 1876 and consecrated in 1877, after De Cocksdorp became an independent Catholic parish in 1855.
• Centuries-old church organ: One of the main highlights is the 1761 organ by organ builder Pieter van Assendelft, decorated with attractive Louis XV-style ornamentation.
• Four-century-old communion rail: Another remarkable feature is the historic communion rail, which is older than the church itself and is one of the most important monumental elements of the interior.

• More historic details: Also look out for the Stations of the Cross dating from around 1890 and the old holy water shell, which was already present in the church's predecessor in 1843.
• Traces of war: During the fighting surrounding the Georgian Uprising in 1945, the church and presbytery were badly damaged. The war damage was repaired between 1948 and 1950.
