Lancaster Monument

Along the Wadden Dike near Oosterend stands the Lancaster Monument. It is a tribute to the Allied airmen who lost their lives in or around Texel during the Second World War.
What can you expect at the Lancaster Monument?
- Historical Significance: The monument marks the site where, on 15 February 1944, the British bomber Lancaster ND363 PM-K crashed.
- Symbolic Tribute: The propeller mounted on a steel frame commemorates the bravery of 189 Allied airmen (from more than 40 aircraft) who never left Texel.
Memorial Plaque: The plaque reads: “With this monument, Texel honours the Allied airmen who perished on or near Texel during the Second World War.”
The monument is located on the Lancasterdijk, overlooking the Wadden Sea. A serene place to pause and reflect on the past.
