Sommeltjes Path - Playground

The Sommeltjespad is the children’s nature trail of Texel, located in the beautiful forest area De Dennen near De Koog.
What can you expect on the Sommeltjespad?
Playful and educational: The trail is designed to teach children to observe nature closely. Along the way they will also encounter ‘animals’ that live on Texel and other fun surprises.- Short, accessible route: At around 1.5 kilometres, the Sommeltjespad is perfect for young children and families. The route is easy to follow.
The Legend of the Sommeltjes: According to an old Texel folk tale, Sommeltjes – little earth creatures – lived on the island and were seen near De Waal. They danced at night by an ancient burial mound in the moonlight. When the sun rose, they turned to small stones, only to come back to life again in the evening.- Beautiful location in De Dennen: The trail winds through the Texel pine forest, planted around 1900 and now a popular recreational area with plenty of walking and play opportunities.
- Nature experience in motion: During the walk, children not only discover the Sommeltjes, but also special plants, insects, and birds that call the forest their home.
Practical Information
Starting point: Pelikaanweg, De Koog. The trail is clearly marked with a sign at the roadside.- Distance: 1.5 km – easy to walk, even with small children.
- Route colour: Follow the brown route.
- Duration: Approximately 30 to 45 minutes walking.
- Accessibility: Fun for families with children up to 7 years. The path is partly unpaved.
- Cost: Free access.
