Hanenplas - Nature

The Hanenplas is a lesser-known nature reserve in the north of Texel. It lies next to the golf club, close to De Cocksdorp and the holiday parks De Krim and Sluftervallei.

What to expect at the Hanenplas

Birdwatching during migration seasons: In spring and autumn, the Hanenplas becomes a paradise for birdwatchers. Spot ring ouzels, skylarks, and other special species around the reeds and open meadows.
Serene nature experience: With the dunes and golf course right next door, there’s always something to see – from songbirds in the air to unique species in the reed ditches. Far from the crowds, you can enjoy the peace and the whispering reeds.
Photography and observation: Water, dune edges, grasslands, and reeds provide beautiful photo opportunities in every season.
Varied landscape: Open plains, grasslands, reed beds, and dunes blend seamlessly together here – ideal for a varied walk.

Location: In the north of the island, next to the golf club and near the holiday parks De Krim and Sluftervallei.
Walking the Hanenpad: Start at the golf clubhouse. Follow the blue markers for a circular walk with the dunes of the Hanenplas on your left and the old branches of the Roggesloot on your right.
Parking is available at holiday park De Krim.
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal for bird migration. In summer and winter, you’ll mainly find peace and nature here.
