At the edge of polder Waalenburg lies the nature centre De Marel, the perfect starting point to discover the rich nature and meadow birds of Texel.

What can you expect at the nature centre De Marel?

• Bird Boulevard: Staff are happy to tell you which birds can be seen at that moment, from breeding birds in spring to large flocks of migratory birds in autumn.
• Excursions and Activities: Join an excursion about birds, orchids or the mudflats, or explore independently with a cycling or walking route.
• Bird Collection and Children’s Corner: In the centre you can view (stuffed) birds up close, while children learn about nature in a playful way in the children’s corner.
• Relaxation and Café: Enjoy coffee, tea or apple pie on the terrace of De Marel, while your children play in the natural playground or your bike is being charged.
• Shop with Nature Products: Take a piece of Texel home with you. In the shop you will find nature books, bird and hedgehog food, sustainable gifts and useful outdoor items.

OERRR Play Nature

• Play area: Right next to the centre there is an adventurous natural playground. Children can play with water, build huts or sneak through bushes. Accessible to all children, including those with disabilities.

• Walking and Cycling: From De Marel you can start beautiful routes through the polder, along winding creeks and small meadow mills. Each season offers a different landscape.
