Athletics Association Texel organizes 'The Sixty of Texel' on Easter Monday. A bi-annual run, which is considered to be the finest and toughest point-to-point race for professional runners and relay teams in the Netherlands by many.
This varied and challenging route goes to all the salient points of the island and is nearly two-thirds free of cars.
The first part along the western half is unpaved, and includes the beach, the woods and dunes and bicycle paths.
The second part along the Wadden side is entirely paved and goes through Oosterend and passes the harbor of Oudeschild, with in the end the climbing of the 'Hoge Berg' (High Mountain).
